Nothing much to report this week. I was on vacation this weekend, not that that should serve as a fitting justification for my laziness (ever get the feeling that I ride that tendency a bit too often?), but admittedly, I found my mind focused on other things. As such, I’ve been completely out of the loop in terms of movies and have watched nothing except an appalling amount of What Not to Wear (does TLC have any other shows?).
However, this might be a good opportunity to take a break from my usual self-serving posts and turn my attention to another site that I’m pretty excited about. For those of you who’ve been keeping up with things here since the early days, you’ll recall that initially this site was an offshoot of now defunct Stylus Magazine. The collapse of that site obviously scattered the film staff and we’ve since moved our separate ways.
Recently, former Stylus critic Paolo Cabrelli has launched a new site comprised of a number of ex-Stylus writers. It’s called FilmSlash and I urge you to check it out. The site’s already populated with a number of extremely interesting articles. Particularly clever is the Film Pairs column that matches up two distinctively different films and finds some oddly common ground between them (until now, I’ve never really considered the strange correlation between The Terminator and Le Samourai).
So check it out when you get the chance (just so long as you promise not to leave me for them) and hopefully I will collect my thoughts before next week. In the meantime, the other writers will pick up the slack for me. Right guys?
